‘Now I have a dead heart’ refugees struggle with mental health and unclean homes

TV report for STV News highlighting the dire conditions refugees and asylum seekers are facing in Glasgow living in accommodation provided by the Mears Group who were contracted by the Home Office to house asylum seekers. I spoke to refugees and those in the community who are helping on the ground. say that they are living in unsanitary conditions. Amir ( not his real name) exposed the conditions he has been living under which has impacted his mental health. At the start of the pandemic, Amir was moved to the Park Inn Hotel where he witnessed asylum seeker Badreddin Abadlla Adam stabbing six people before being shot dead by police after reportedly suffering mental health problems. He exposed the plight of refugees and asylum seekers in Scotland and urges the Scottish government to do more and investigate the issues with housing providers such as Mears.


Following the report the Scottish government has pledged to continue to do their best to support refugees and asylum seekers and says that the UK government must look into the allegations made and investigate further.
